Speech-language pathologists are needed for participation in a qualitative research study investigating the preparation of speech-language pathologists to assess and treat pediatric dysphagia.
My name is Sara Grzina. I am an Assistant Professor of Speech-Language Pathology at Maryville University and a doctoral student in the Doctor of Education in Health Professions program at A.T. Still University.
I am conducting a qualitative research study on the preparation of speech-language pathologists to assess and treat pediatric dysphagia. The purpose of this study is to understand how speech-language pathologists acquire requisite knowledge and skills to assess and treat pediatric dysphagia, to identify requisite knowledge and skills that speech-language pathologists develop within graduate speech-language pathology programs, to identify requisite knowledge and skills that speech-language pathologists do not develop within graduate speech-language pathology programs, and to identify ways in which graduate speech-language pathology programs can better prepare speech-language pathologists to assess and treat pediatric dysphagia.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) Use in Both children and Adult Populations
My name is Erica LaBranch, and I am a graduate student in the Speech-Language Pathology program at Idaho State University. I am working with Dr. Kris Brock, CCC-SLP, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Idaho State University in Meridian. Dr. Brock’s focus in research is on augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) use in both children and adult populations.
Under Dr. Brock, I am completing a research project focused on gathering detailed information on how school-based SLPs work in collaboration with other stakeholders to target communication skills for learners of AAC (IRB #: FY2021-223). The core of my project is a national survey of school-based SLPs.
About the Survey
The survey is designed to take approximately 15-25 minutes. It is hosted online, and can be completed from the comfort of the participant’s home. Questions will focus on identifying whom SLP collaborate with to target specific communication skills, the quality of SLP-collaborator relationships and identification of any tools teams use to organize and communicate. Participants will also be asked to supply some basic demographic information (e.g., caseload size, years as an SLP).
I am looking for the input of:
- US-based CCC-SLPs
- working in a school setting
- who work with at least one user or learner of any type of AAC
Complete the survey: https://isu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bd2ImasoIohQFRs
